Can you send me some free Dum-Dums?

We don’t offer free items or coupons, but if you are interested in promotional items or candy products, you can purchase items through our online store.

Do you offer tours of your factory?

We offer a virtual tour of our factory at Spangler Candy World in Bryan, Ohio. Just take a seat in our theater to enjoy a BIG screen view of how our candy’s made. Spangler Candy World also features a large retail store with candy and merchandise, fascinating historical displays, and interactive games.

Why don't you make Dum-Dums with plastic sticks?

We believe paper sticks are safer for children, as plastic sticks can break, creating sharp edges and small pieces.

Why aren't Dum-Dums bigger?

Most of our fans feel Dum-Dums are just the right size for a perfect treat. They are quick, convenient, and packed with flavor. They’re just right for kids (and adults, too)! Each pop has fewer than 26 calories!

What is the shelf life of Dum-Dums?

Dum-Dums have a shelf life of 36 months. The “Best By” date for all Spangler Candy products is indicated on each package. Products should be stored in a cool, dry environment.

Why can I no longer find my favorite Dum-Dums flavor?

We rotate flavors periodically to keep it fun for Dum-Dums fans. We’re sorry your favorite flavor is on vacation. Keep checking for new flavors; maybe you’ll discover a new favorite!

What kind of sugar do you use in Dum-Dums?

We use either beet or cane sugar to make our candies sweet.

Are Dum-Dums gluten-free?

Dum-Dums do not contain the gluten protein found in wheat, barley, rye, or oats. We have contacted our suppliers on the ingredients we use, including sugar, corn syrup, citric, malic, lactic acid, ascorbic acid, artificial flavors & colors, starch, release agents, and processing aids. These products do not contain the gluten protein that causes a problem for people with Celiac Sprue.

Are Dum-Dums allergen-free?

Dum-Dums are free of the top common allergens. The ingredients, as well as the processing aids (such as release lubricants), do not contain any peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, milk, fish, shellfish, wheat, or gluten. How do you come up with new flavors of Dum-Dums?

Dum-Dums flavors are chosen based on input from consumers, online flavor votes, results of taste tests, and food trends.

Can I buy just one particular flavor of Dum-Dums?

We sell packages of single flavor Dum-Dums in many flavors through our online candy store.

Why aren't all flavors in every bag of Dum-Dums?

Missing flavors occasionally happen due to the nature of the packing process. Larger bags generally have the best flavor variety.

What is the Dum-Dums Mystery Flavor?

The Mystery Flavor is, well, a mystery! We can only reveal that the Mystery Flavor continuously changes and is not limited to current Dum-Dums flavors. It's up to Dum-Dums fans to guess the flavor of these mysterious pops.

How many flavors of Dum-Dums are there?

Packs of Original Dum-Dums have up to 16 flavors. Dum-Dums also come in a variety of seasonal packs with even more flavors.

How did Dum-Dums get their name?

Dum-Dums were originated by Akron Candy Company, Bellevue, Ohio, in 1924. A company executive chose the name Dum-Dums for the ball-shaped candy on a stick because it is easy for children and adults to say. Learn more about Dum-Dum’s 100 year history here.

How are Dum-Dums made?

Dum-Dums are made from a mixture of sugar and corn syrup. After it is cooked, it is placed in a large mixer and the color and flavor are added. After these ingredients are mixed together, the batch of candy moves through a batch roller and press which forms the head of the Dum-Dum and inserts the stick.
