Q1: What is the history of the Dum Dum, and how did it get its name?
A1:
Dum Dum Pops were originated by Akron Candy Company in Bellevue, Ohio, in 1924. I.C. Bahr, the early sales manager of the company, named the ball-shaped candy on a stick and figured Dum Dum was a word any child could say. Spangler Candy purchased the Dum Dum Pop in 1953 from Akron Candy Company and moved the operation to Bryan, Ohio.

Q2: Who owns Spangler Candy Company?
A2: We are a private independent candy company. We have been in the candy business since 1906.

Q3: Do you offer public tours of Spangler Candy Company?
A3: Yes, we now offer public tours of the factory in our Dum Dum Trolley, and have a company store & museum.  For information on the tours and store & museum, go to www.spanglercandy.com and click on Spangler Store | Museum under the Distribution link.

Q4: How are Dum Dums made?
A4: Dum Dums are made from a mixture of sugar and corn syrup. After it is cooked, it is placed in a large mixer and the color and flavor are added. After these ingredients are mixed together, the batch of candy moves through a batch roller and press which forms the head of the Dum Dum and inserts the stick. After the candy cools, it is wrapped and sent by a conveyor belt to an area where it is placed in bags, and then boxed for shipment.

Q5: Can we get a donation of candy?
A5: We receive a tremendous number of requests from worthwhile causes, and therefore have strict guidelines governing our support.  In most cases our donations are limited to local area events and organizations.  For local area donations, please submit a written request to Spangler Candy Company via mail, fax, or email at least six weeks prior to the event for consideration.

Q6: Can you send me some free Dum Dums?
A6: Unfortunately, we are unable to send out free Dum Dums or samples of our new flavors. You can purchase Dum Dums at many local retailers. You can purchase Dum Dums via our Online Order web site at www.spanglercandy.com. Many fine businesses also purchase Dum Dums and give them away as a thank-you to their customers. If your local business does not give out Dum Dums, ask them to carry "America's Favorite Giveaway Lollipop™".

Q7: Why are Dum Dums small?
A7: Most of our customers feel Dum Dum Pops are just the right size for a perfect treat. It's quick, convenient, and packed with flavor. It's just right for kids (and big kids too)!

Q8: Why don't you make Dum Dums bigger?
A8: We feel our original Dum Dums are just the right size (see question #7). We do have, however, a new item, Dum Dum Chewy Pops, that comes in a miniature and standard sizes.
